Don’t forget to taste the cake!

Its one of the key ingredients to your perfect day, so why do so many brides allow themselves to be snowballed into a design they may not necessary enjoy the taste of? It’s all very well having the most stunning design but it will be remembered for its taste also. A tasting session is a must and a good baker will offer this service with a nice cuppa to wash it down – Heaven! Decisions about design and flavours shouldn’t be rushed, I recommend taking the same time and effort with this as you would your dress. It’s important to get it right.

Think about your personal styles, hobbies and your chosen theme. Maybe your cake will become the item that shapes your theme? There’s a lot to think about. Looking online and in magazines are a good place to start if you have absolutely no idea what you would like. If you already have a vision create a mood board to help you bring your vision together with scraps of fabric for colours and cuttings from magazines or online with the help of Pinterest – fabulous place to create and gather ideas. Think about your budget it’s easy to get carried away trying to re-create something spectacular, this way you and your baker will also know what is achievable for your budget.

Also remember it’s your day – family and friends will be happy with the choices you make.

Will you stop at one cake or will you have a couple? Maybe even a Dessert Table (very popular at the moment) as are Groom’s cakes although recently big in the US if you look back at the history of cakes it was a very traditional occurrence to have a separate cake for the bride and groom. Perhaps you would like to involve your family and friends – get them baking and display them all together at your reception.

Another big question when it comes to the cake – do you stick with traditional fruit cake? (although fruit cake is less likely to wedge a door open these days 😉 ) or do you opt for various flavoured options and funky up to date fillings – Baileys chocolate ganache, silky smooth caramel butter cream or something totally different like hot pink Skittle’s vodka flavour. Now that’s unusual!!

Here at Sweet Devotion we love nothing more than an excuse to talk cake so book your consultation and let us help you make those important decisions.
